Peach New Media Freestone

The following are highlights from the Peach New Media Freestone profile in the Association Learning Management Systems report.

Peach New Media is a bit of an outlier among the companies featured in this report. Formed through the recent merger of Boston Conferencing and Impact Media Solutions, the company has traditionally focused on Webinar services and capturing content from place-based conferences. The company’s Freestone platform, however, has moved increasingly toward traditional learning management system territory.

One of the key strengths of the Freestone system is in tracking continuing education credit associated with Webinars, teleseminars, Webcasts, and live conferences.  Peach has particular experience in the area of continuing legal education, but has also worked with a range of clients in health care, financial services, and other industries.

  • Everything in the Freestone system is based on widgets, making it possible to configure the system in a number of different ways and to turn features on and off easily.
  • Peach has focused on ways to integrate popular social media options into the online learning environment. Freestone features modules that enable organizations to integrate content from blogs, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other sources.
  • Peach has recently introduced an option to tie continuing education  tracking from live conferences back to the Freestone system by using radio frequency identification (RFID) name tags. The RFID tags track the physical presence of learners in education sessions and feed this data back to Freestone, where appropriate assessments and evaluations are presented to the learner.
  • The Peach system allows credit types to be highly customized and supports the sale of credit separate from courses (i.e., the course itself may be free, but if an end user wants credit for the course, that requires payment). Additionally, a range of “industry standard” credit categories are programmed in to the Freestone system to facilitate credit management.

Freestone does not, at this point, have strong capabilities for importing and tracking standards-based online courses created outside of the system. Additionally, administration of the system is handled almost entirely by Peach. For organizations that deliver a lot of Webinar and place-based learning, however, Freestone is a solid platform for managing and tracking these within an integrated Web environment.
