This time around in my series of interviews with learning management system (LMS) providers, I’m joined by Dr. Jason Cole, Chief Operating Officer for Remote-Learner, an official Moodle partner and provider of the Enterprise Learning Intelligence Suite for Moodle (ELIS).
One of the findings from our Association E-learning: State of the Sector report was that the open source Moodle platform is the most widely used learning management system in the association sector. Aside from helping to support association usage of Moodle through his work at Remote-Learner, Jason is also co-author of the highly popular Using Moodle, an essential text for course developers and facilitators (and, in the spirit of open source, also freely available for download under a Creative Commons license).
Like so many of the other people I have interviewed, Jason stresses that “putting a learning management system in place is probably the easiest part of the puzzle.” Making good, strategic use of it is the bigger challenge. Jason and I also talk about the upsides and downsides of using open source software as well as his take on what’s coming down the pipe for e-learning – including social learning and personal learning.
