More on Twitter for the Virtual Lunch:
There will be a Twitter chat for this call using the Twitter “hashtag” #asaepd. This will enable people to comment and communicate before, during, and after the call. For those of you already comfortable with Twitter and hashtags, you may use your favorite Twitter tool or go to http://tweetchat.com/room/asaepd for more of a “chat” experience. For those of you that are NEW to Twitter, here’s a a longer explanation on getting started with Twitter and using hashtags:
New to Twitter and hashtags??
First, if you are entirely new to Twitter or just not quite sure how it all works, you should pay a visit to the brief and entertaining video explanation provided by Commoncraft at http://www.commoncraft.com/Twitter.
Once you feel relatively comfortable with how Twitter works, you will need to sign up for an account if you don’t already have one (free at http://twitter.com). Then, any time you send out a “tweet” that is related to association professional development, include the hashtag “#asaepd” (without the quotation marks) in your tweet. It’s called a “hashtag” because of the hash mark or “#” that appears in front of the letters of the tag.
So then what happens? All of the tweets that get sent out with the “#asaepd” hashtag accumulate in a single channel. There are a number of ways to find that channel and view it. One is to go to http://search.twitter.com and type in “asaepd” or “#asaepd” and when you click “Search” a page will appear with all of the tweets that have been marked with the hashtag. You can do this same kind of search in a desktop Twitter application like Tweetdeck (free at www.tweetdeck.com) and then save the search so that you can track it on an ongoing basis.
Finally – and this is the recommended option for the time during which our upcoming call takes place, you can go to http://tweetchat.com/room/asaepd (free) and log in with your Twitter ID and password. Tweetchat makes using Twitter just like using a standard chat room, so everyone on the call will be able to chat in real time while also listening to and participating in the conference call.
